Getting To Plymouth

🚆 By Train

Plymouth railway station is on the Great Western main line, with direct services from London Paddington (around 3 to 3.5 hours), Bristol, Birmingham, and across the South West via GWR and CrossCountry. The station is a 10-15 minute walk from the city centre and Hoe.

🚗 By Car

Plymouth sits at the end of the M5/A38 corridor. From Exeter, follow the A38 Devon Expressway (about 45 minutes). From Cornwall, cross the Tamar Bridge (toll payable leaving Plymouth into Cornwall is free; entering Plymouth over the bridge carries a small toll) or use the Torpoint Ferry.

• Barbican & Hoe - popular and busy in summer; arrive early on sunny days
• Park & Ride - sites at Milehouse, Coypool and The George with regular buses to the centre

National Express and Megabus serve Plymouth coach station with direct routes from London, Bristol and beyond. Local buses are run primarily by Plymouth Citybus and Stagecoach South West.

⛴️ By Ferry

Brittany Ferries operates international sailings from Plymouth to Roscoff (France) and Santander (Spain) from Millbay docks. Locally, the Cremyll Ferry crosses to Mount Edgcumbe, the Torpoint Ferry carries vehicles across the Tamar, and seasonal water taxis link the Barbican, Royal William Yard and Mount Batten.

✈️ By Air

The nearest major airports are Exeter (about 1 hour by road) and Bristol (about 2 hours), both with connecting rail and coach links to Plymouth. Newquay airport in Cornwall is around 1.5 hours away.
